Gary Carter Head Coach of the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League

As weird as this may seem, I am a Gary Carter fan. Yes I’ve been following and loving the Red Sox for a very long time, but some players you just like and follow. For instance, I bet no one knew I liked watching Steve Carlton pitch. I’m not a huge Phillies fan, but I liked watching him pitch, especially the intensity in which he had during the game. Another player I liked watching was Rickey Henderson. He signed with the Red Sox in 2002, but only played in 4 games. That was awesome, he was one of the oldest players playing and it was for the team I liked watching. Unfortunately it was the end of his career so he wasn’t the dynamic base stealing threat he used to be, but still thrilling nonetheless. And one of my favorite players is Curt Schilling. I really enjoyed watching him pitch and play the game. I still have most of his cards from back when he was a rookie with Baltimore up until his retirement with Boston. I’d love to get an autograph of his live in person rather than online.

Tonight I am going to the Lancaster Barnstormers game with some friends and I get to see Gary Carter coach for the Long Island Ducks. Gary Carter is one of those guys I liked watching play the game. From 1982 when I really started collecting cards to around 1995 when I stopped, by basement was full of baseball and football cards. I would buy random packs of cards all the time in hopes of completing my sets. It’s not like today when the biggest reason for buying a pack of cards is the hope of pulling a rookie autographed jersey card to sell on eBay. Back then it was for the love of the game, the players and the thrill of completing a set.

There are some cards that you remember as a kid when you got them and they stick on your mind. For instance, the 1983 Topps Porfi Altamirano card sticks in my mind. Also, the 1984 Topps Wade Boggs and Don Mattingly cards. Oh, and how can you forget the 1982 Topps Rickey Henderson? Anyway, the point is that two of those cards I remember that I had were the 1980 and 1982 Topps Gary Carter cards. I just liked them for some reason and this lead me to watching him when I could.

I’m hoping to get his autograph tonight at the game, and it’s not because I want to sell it on eBay. It’s because I want to put it in my memorabilia case with the Rickey Henderson Autographed ball, the Jim Rice autographed ball, the Dustin Pedroia Autographed ball and the two Curt Schilling balls. So this posting is just my way of saying I think it’s cool that I can see one of the players I liked watching as a kid up close and personal as a manager.

Steve McNair Farrah Fawcett Ed McMahon Michael Jackson – RIP

Well it looks like I could not get any comments from my Michael Jackson posting so I guess not too many people read my blog. I did not know Steve McNair, nor did I ever see him play football live and he did not influence my life in any way. But, just like Michael Jackson, he was a very passionate football player and played hurt all the time. He did some great things on the field and seemed like he was a pretty good guy off the field.

I have to admit, while watching ESPNews yesterday, I got chills watching the news coverage. My arm hairs were standing up on end and that did not happen while I watched the coverage of Jackson or Ed McMahon or Farrah Fawcett. I guess my passions run in the sporting world and not so much the entertainment or music worlds.

What I do know is that all of thos people will be missed and all contributed to the world in their own particular way. Again where I am not saddened by their deaths, I can understand how some others are affected and would be sad. It is a shame to lose high profile people just as it is a shame to lose close family members.

I am thinking I need to do one of to things. I should either blog more about anything and everything, or I should just stick to posting things that are for sale. I guess I will try both and see which works best for me. If you do read this, please register and post a comment or follow me on twitter or on facebook.

My Personal Opinion on the Death of Michael Jackson

I have to say I am a fan of his music, some, not all, but enough to call myself a fan. I am a child of the 80’s and 90’s which means I was listening to his stuff during the prime of the King of Pop.  The Thriller album was awesome and I was a fan of Off the Wall too.  Not to mention some good songs on Bad and Dangerous.

I understand that his passing is tragic in the sense that a life is gone, a life that was pretty much devoted to making music.  I also understand that he brought joy to many people, mostly his family and close friends and to those who loved his music.  Here is where I become the heartless, soulless bastard that will offend some, but hopefully others will relate to.  You can take this for what it is, my personal opinion.

I am not sad. The death of Michael Jackson does not sadden me to the point of crying or feeling bad about the day.  I do not feel like I lost a family member or someone close to me. He died, everyone dies and yes he was only 50 and that is too early, but I never knew him, I never spoke to him, nothing he did or said affected the outcome of my life or the way I went about my day to day living.  I did not dress like him, talk like him, act or dance like him. What I did was sing some of his songs by myself in the car, just like I do with other artists that I like their songs.  Just today on the way to work I was singing Farewell My Summer Love. Now I believe that to be an actual Jackson 5 song, but whatever, I like it so I sang along.

These people that want to have a day of memoriam or a “wear one glove day” as a tribute are truly out of it. How in the world dose a bunch of people wearing one white glove make sense?  It was a bizarre thing to do then and it is a bizarre thing to do now.  I truly do not understand those people that just sob uncontrollably at concerts or when he was on the TV doing the moonwalk or even when he was walking down the street.  It does not make any sense to me at all.  I do know that I am pretty much void of deep feeling and emotions, but this is just irrational to think that a weird guy that decided to make himself white, and was under a lot of scrutiny for the eccentric and sometimes inappropriate behavior towards little boys, had such a deep and profound impact on everyone’s life.

It is a very good thing that I do not have to be politically correct and it does not matter the least bit what I think because everyone is entitled to their own opinion an has their own thoughts.  How can I be sad about the passing of someone I did not know?  How can my life be altered in such a way that I need to wear a white glove in tribute of someone I had no interaction with, nor did I feel close to?  There are too many other things going on in the world that I have to deal with that are much more important.  I have a mortgage, planning a wedding, dealing with a sister who can’t afford to pay her bills, mutated poison ivy on my leg that will not go away, bills that pile up, the economy itself, not to mention terrorism at home and abroad.

I know what is going to happen now, the media is going to play this up and have tributes all over the place. His songs are going to be overplayed on the radio as well as satellite. I even heard American Idol is going to replay the top 13 show that had all of his songs on it.

The point of my rant is to not make such a big deal out of a celebrity’s death.  Everyone dies, deal with it.

Huge Comic Book Collection 4 Sale $1500 or Priced Individually

11195-marvel20logo_large1dc-comics-logo1412865-image_comics_logo_large valiant8logo21
Huge collection of comics for sale! Marvel, DC, Valiant, Image. X-Force, Excalibur, Unmimited X-Men, X-men solo shots like Bishop, Rogue, Deadpool, Maverick, Emma Frost, Magneto, Gambit and More! Not to mention Spider-man, Batman, Superman, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Teen Titans, Spawn, Wildcats, Stormwatch, Wetworks and the list goes on.

The comics are mostly newer dating back to the 80’s and 90’s, but there are some older as well. I’ve researched and priced almost every single comic at less than 50% of the Overstreet Book value. The majority of comics have a face value of $4 or more and are listed at $1 and $1.50. Some of the more sought after comics are listed a little higher, but still much less than what you would pay at a Comic Store

This is one of the more sought after comics for sale, it’s The New Mutants issue #98, the first appearance of Deadpool with artwork by Rob Liefeld. Overstreet book value is $45 or more, we are letting it go for $30
